I love dreaming of adventures. I like the idea of spontaneously setting off, bags in hand, and seeing what you can find. As a child, I spent many of my days reading Enid Blyton adventure stories, allowing myself to be transported to worlds full of intrigue and lashings of ginger beer. I think that’s why I liked Moonrise Kingdom so much.
If you haven’t seen it, Moonrise Kingdom is a film, set in 1965 and directed by Wes Anderson, which follows the journey of a couple of 12 year olds as they run away together. Suzy is a bit of a loner, living with her parents in New England. Sam is an orphan, camping nearby with the Boy Scouts. Their story is both humorous and melancholy, and full of visual loveliness.
I left the cinema with a great big smile and plenty of inspiration. Suzy was quite the style icon, with her little tweed cape coat and saddle shoes.
I present to you…
